Homophones (1)- کلمات هم آوا
در این سری مقالات به بررسی کلمات هم آوا در زبان انگلیسی می پردازیم؛ این ها کلماتی هستند که یک تلفظ دارند ولی دیکته و معنای متفاوتی از هم دارند. این موجودات موذی در بیشتر مواقع باعث ایجاد سوء تفاهم برای مخاطبین ما می شوند. راه حل؟
- نه فقط به تلفظ، بلکه به دیکته و معنای این کلمات دقت بیشتری داشته باشیم. به خصوص وقتی که کلمه ای را می شنویم و متوجه می شویم با معنایی که ما برای آن کلمه بلدیم، نمی شود حرف گفته شده را معنی کرد. این احتمال قوی را در نظر بگیریم که شاید با یک کلمه مشابه و هم آوا سروکار داریم.
- برای هر مورد از این کلمات هم آوا حداقل چند تایی مثال بزنیم و مثالهای موجود در دیکشنری های خوب انگلیسی-انگلیسی را هم چک کنیم. ( بخش دیکشنری در وبلاگ)
- با این کلمات بازی کنیم، جوک بسازیم و برای دیکته درست آنها مسابقه ترتیب دهیم.
- به منابعی چون این وبلاگ هم سری بزنیم تا شاید از حضور کلمات هم آوای بیشتری آگاه شویم.

Been: past participle of “be”
e.g. He has been to several countries in Europe and Africa.

Pear: a fruit
e.g. My favorite fruits are pears and bananas.
Pair: a set of two (people or things)
e.g. She bought a pair of shoes for her daughter yesterday.
- STEAK/ STAKE
استیک/ پایه چوبی و در خطر بودن
Steak: a delicious beef dish
e.g. They ordered steak for lunch.
Stake: a long piece of wood with a sharp end; also “ be at stake” means “be in danger”
e.g. When they bet on their house, they knew it was at stake.
- FLOUR/ FLOWER
آرد/ گل
Flour: a powder for making bread and cake
e.g. She ordered 3 pounds of flour.
Flower: part of plants. Some are usually sold in flower shops
e.g. He bought a bouquet of flowers for his girlfriend.
- MEAT/ MEET
گوشت/ ملاقات کردن
Meat: a source of protein from animals
e.g. She is vegetarian. She doesn’t eat meat.
Meet: see someone whether through an arrangement or by chance
e.g. We met after such a long time, but we felt like we had met the day before.
- CHILLI/ CHILLY
فلفل چیلی/ سرد یا خنک
Chilli: a type of pepper
e.g. I add chilli to any dish I make.
Chilly: cold
e.g. It was chilly in the morning, so I put on a warm coat.
