Omar Khayyam
Khayyam Nayshapuri, Also known as Omar Khayyam was born in 1048, Neyshabur, in Northeastern Iran. he lived approximately around the time of the first Crusades, the Saljuk era.
He was a great Persian poet and scientist, who contributed to math, astronomy, philosophy, and Persian literature. He was influenced by Ibn Sina, Al Khawarizmi, and Al Biruni. His contributions to poetry made him world famous when Edward Fitzgerald translated his quatrains (or rubais) in Rubaiyat to English in1859. Although it was heavily influenced by Fitzgerald’s interpretations, rather than being a strictly literal translation, it is still the most popular English version of his work.
Despite being known as a great Persian poet, Khayyam also had an impact on other fields like astronomy and math, especially in areas such as geometric algebra and modifications to Jalil calendar.
He died in 1131, in his birthplace, Neyshabur. His tomb is also known as an architectural masterpiece, designed by Hooshang Seyhoun.
