Ibn Sina(980-1037)
Bu Ali Sina, also known as Avicenna, was a prominent physician and philosopher during the Islamic Golden Age. He is called “the Father of Early Medicine”. His philosophy was highly influenced by Aristotle’s.
He was born in Afshana near Bukhara to a Persian family and died in Hamedan. He served in the courts of multiple Persian kings.
Out of the 450 works written by Aviecenna on medicine, philosophy, astronomy, alchemy, physics, math, logic, psychology, theology and poetry, only 240 (around half) have survived. The most renowned works are “ The Book of Healing” on science and philosophy, and “The Canon of Medicine” on medical issues. The latter was used as a major standard medical text all the way through the Middle Ages to 1650.
Most of his works were written either in Arabic or Persian/ Farsi.
